Capoeira was created by slaves

Explanation

It was created by enslaved Africans in Brazil during the 16th century, disguised as a dance to avoid detection, since Portuguese colonizers prohibited enslaved people from practicing combat techniques. Its reputation as a threat persisted long after slavery: capoeira was even criminalized in Brazil in 1890, and it only became a celebrated national symbol when it was legalized again in the 1930s.
