The Mongol Empire failed to conquer Japan because of typhoons

The answer is True.

Explanation

They started two invasions in 1274 and 1281 and both were stopped by typhoons which destroyed a huge amount of their forces each time. They never tried to invade Japan again which kept its independence. These storms were historically referred to as "kamikaze" (meaning divine winds in Japanese).
