Different regions of the tongue detect different tastes

Explanation

The famous "tongue map" is wrong. With the exception of a slightly less sensitive middle zone, all regions with taste buds can detect all five basic tastes. It comes from a misreading of a 1901 German study that was turned into a textbook diagram in 1942 and never left the classrooms.
