Science · True or False?

The widest tornado ever recorded was above 2 miles (~3.2 km) wide

The answer is True.

Explanation

The El Reno 2013 tornado had a peak width of 2.6 miles (4.2 km) and sub-vortex wind speeds exceeding 300 mph (483 km/h), which are amongst the highest wind speeds ever recorded on Earth. It was only rated an EF3 since it was mostly on open terrain. Unfortunately this tornado took the lives of Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras, and Carl Young, three dedicated storm chasers with the TWISTEX project, as well as amateur storm chaser Richard Henderson, making it the first documented instance of storm chasers being killed by the tornado they were chasing.
