The earliest known attempt at an electric vehicle was by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson, who built the first electric carriage in the 1830s. Tesla produced their first electric car (Tesla Roadster) in 2008, which is around 170 years after that. Fun fact: the first car to exceed 100 km/h, in 1899, was also an electric one called "La Jamais Contente".
